Several years ago, I took
a ride up the Amazon on a rickety, broken down
riverboat. It was one of those experiences that changes your perspective on everything. Seeing the lives of the people
wohh dwell along the river, the exotic animal life, the river itself… the size of the Amazon is unfathomable. There are
sections along its wending path where if you are plying the middle, you cannot see the riverside in either
direction.Well, and so I stumbled upon this story from the folks at Rough Guides. It’s simple,
but interesting, and gives a flavor of the unusual culture and life along the world’s largest river.
