Thai Tourism Takes Hit from Tsunami

Even though most places in Thailand are nowhere near the beaches smashed by the tsunami, the whole country is
reeling from the effect on its tourism industry. About 1.2 million people are likley to cancel their trips to Thailand
because of the deadly waves.

Why is that, I wonder? Is it that people just hear the words “Thailand” or “Asia” and say, oh, we can’t go there,
it’s too dangerous? Are they afraid something else bad is going to happen to them? Or are they just canceling out of
respect for all the dead? Dunno. Someone help me out here. Why would someone with a vacation planned next month to
Chang Mai cancel his trip?
