Visiting Trinidad this past October only gave
me a taste for what could possibly be in store over the coming weeks. Every year, two days prior to Ash Wednesday, the
far eastern island nation of Trinidad & Tobago hosts one of the largest Carnival’s in all the Caribbean. Fete’s or
parties for the event begin as early as October, with band launches showcasing costumes for the event. My worries were
cast to sea as I jumped and whined (danced) to the tunes of Destra
Garcia, a famous Soca artist.
But don’t take my word for it;
CNN has a great
article describing the history of the 166-year-old festival. If after reading the article you want to go, but can’t
make it to this year’s Carnival, let’s plan for next?
