Every time I click into Roadside America I see these bizarre sites to see the world’s most gigantic
ostrich, donut, grocery bag, and other absurd roadside dives. The
World’s Largest Thermometer located in Baker, California had
been a dream of Will Herron for over 25 years before it became a reality and it makes me wonder what it says about the
“American Dream?” Do we really have to have everything big, obnoxious, and larger than life? Anywho,
I’ll stop there before this piece spirals out of control and into the politics of American
Dreams. Herron’s thermometer is there to symbolize the record high temperatures seen in the area just outside
of Death Valley. I guess that’s kind of cool. Shrugs.
