Appalachian Musical Heritage

Washington Post features an engaged piece of reading and possible adventure for music
pilgrims looking to explore Virginia’s
Appalachian musical
heritage
.  The Crooked Road is a 250-mile string of state highways winding their way through mountains near
North Carolina and Tennessee.  Find yourself some good old hollerin’ and praising his name (or not) in
country Virginia churches or look onto the “banjar,”  the African ancestor of the five -string banjo in
the Birthplace of Country Music Alliance at the mall.  There is definitely something on the trail to woo
everyone.
