Pretty fascinating story on engadget. Scientists are
starting to use cell phone technology to track animals. Already
SMS technolgy is being used via GSM/GPS collars to follow
beasts in the wild, but this new system is reportedly cheaper. It uses cell phone
SIM cards.
A trial is set for next month that will enable researchers to track dolphins off the coast of South Africa. But you
know how smart dolphins can be. Hopefully Flipper won’t hack the system to make long-distance calls to his brethren in
California. (OK, bad joke)
