The LA Times harshes on it’s hometown airport, LAX,
in this peice, suggesting the Tom
Bradley International Terminal is the “worst terminal in the Western world,” a nightmare for people having to go
through customs, according to travelers posting on an Internet bulletin board. And things are only going to get worse
this summer as the terminal and airport brace themselves for a very busy summer. LAX expects 18.5 million travelers
this summer, up 6% from the same period a year ago, and about 5.1 million of them will be international passengers, up
about 10% over June, July and August of 2004.
I fly to LA a fair amount, and offer the suggestion to others that they might consider flying to Long Beach, Burbank
or Santa Ana airports. All of these airports have put a lot of money into expansion over the last few years and most
major airlines fly into them. In fact, JetBlue
just opened it’s service to Burbank a few days ago.
So if you’re making plans to fly to LA, give these alternatives a look.
