I have several friends who have taken such enlightening vacations and retreats in places found
close to their homes in Berkeley, California or as far as Nepal. Each has told me it
doesn’t matter how far you go to your destination as the journey is within, but for those wanting passionately to seek
mediation courses and a place far east to reflect on meaningful life should look into the
Kopan Monastery in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal.
Having offered public teachings to Westerners since 1971, the Monastery continues to see a number of visitors
each year. Many enroll in the intensive one month introduction to Buddhism while others stay from 7 to 10 days
for meditation courses. At a glance this seems to be a great spiritual oasis for anybody or to just take a
Tibetan language course and either way you’ll have to do some extra research to gather the
specifics on programs.
