I mentioned this month’s Men’s Journal issue a bit ago, which is all about
taking a year off to see the world or to learn to do something new, or whatever. I was quoted in the article for my
year off in Chile (although it wasn’t exactly a year off, since I wrote for the local newspaper and freelanced a
bit). But the reason I bring it up is that Rolf Potts has posted a
nice little list of links on his Vagabonding site that
can help you get started should the idea of a work hiatus sound appealing (and why wouldn’t it?). From links to
volunteering to work-study to picking up a language, this is a pretty good list to get you started.
