When I camped out on the beaches of the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica I didn’t have nearly the
luxury as some of the camping found at the El
Captain Canyon located in Santa Barbara, CA. I enjoyed the simplicity of it all; the crashing of the
waves, pitch black starry skies, and the hums and chirps of mosquitoes and bugs I knew nothing about. I would be lying
if I said I didn’t have a bed in the tent I was sleeping in, but the ultra hard wooden frame and slither of a mattress
provided little comfort. It merely raised and protected me from a wondering hermit crab looking to possibly snip
at an inncoent American tourist. It was nothing like the stuff found at the El Captain.
If you love the sound of camping out, but dislike some of the minor details that come with roughing it, worry not as
the folks in the canyon have you covered. You can stay in one of their lovely 12′ x 14′ safari tents built
on raised wooden decks with queen sized beds and a down comforter to go along. Restrooms and showers are also
close by and I don’t mean squatting behind sycamore trees. The facilities are located in buildings especially for
tent campers. This is simply a tasting of some of the luxury that can come with camping. They’ve also got cabins
though the tents are much more charming I think. Tents run about $135 during high season.
