United: Get Miles When You’re Late

Another pretty interesting twist in the ongoing frequent flier wars.

United Airlines (who is my FF airline of choice), is now offering
500 miles to frequent fliers who land more
than a half hour late on nonstop flights between Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport and seven other domestic
airports. A nice deal, but obviously kinda silly in a way since you gotta be going to or from Chicago, the big United
hub.  The seven airports are Boston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Newark, LaGuardia, Philly and Ronald
Reagan National Airport in suburban Washington.

I’m glad they’re doing this and would love to see the program expand. But on a lousier note, United a while ago also
kicked up the required miles to book trips on their FF program. India, for example, cost me 80,000 miles a year ago
when I was there. Now it’s 100K. So you win some, you lose more.
