It’s rare that I get to stay at any of the hotels I blog about these days unless it’s one I’ve been to
in the past, (which seems a bit strange when you think about it) but this weekend I gave
the Townhouse Hotel in South Beach a chance on my quick run in and out of the
area. My initial blog can be found here. For starters the
hotel remains cool, hip, and cheap as stated before, but the service is muy malo. When we walked in the entire
front desk was chatting it up in Spanish paying little attention to the new faces that just walked up. After a
minute or two my friend was greeted more with a what do you want attitude rather than a how can I help you.
It instantly soured our mood, but didn’t stop there.
If you’ve never been to South Beach you’re probably unaware of the horrible parking situation in the area, but
as a $20 courtesy the hotel offers unlimited valet during your stay. When I initially tried to explain the
operating instructions to my car remote control clicker thing (It’s actually very easy, but sometimes it doesn’t
work because it caught on fire on my coffee table a while back. Long story.) to very uptight and unfriendly
lady at the front desk she pretty much stated they knew how to operate my slightly sizzled clicker. She seemed
very aggravated with little sense of humor. I suppose friendliness doesn’t come with cool and hip.
The rest of the stay was rather nice and the place did feel a little like home, with one other exception. The CD
player in the room wasn’t working. As far as I remember mine works fine at my house, but either I was having great
troubles operating the player or it wasn’t working. It wasn’t working. The clean white down comforter had a couple tiny
spots of blood and I think that concludes my rants about the room.
The rooftop lounge which isn’t open to the public on Sundays was a nice escape and place to chill out to the sounds
of Michael Jackson and Prince playing from the speakers. So with that just think twice about the place if you go.
