Katrina Vanden Heuvel on Being Lazy

All politics aside, Katrina Vanden Heuvel over at
The Nation
blogs about her vacation somewhere
in the state of Florida, touches on the hurricane named Katrina and how she somehow
managed to squeeze in some recommended reading on being lazy. For all the workaholics out there looking to a take a 101
in learning to trade in the office space for a warm vacation place, her recommendation is Al Gini’s,
‘The Importance of
Being Lazy: In Praise of Play, Leisure, and Vacations.’
Don’t we all need to chuck modern technology, agendas, and
our obnoxious bosses to the side once in awhile? Mmhmm… Amen! Well the problem, like Katrina laments is many of us
don’t know how-to or for one reason or another just can’t escape. (Note: This has never been a problem for
me.)

Ultimately, the book is a study on Americans’ vacation habits and shows how ‘doing nothing’ is a fundamental
human necessity. Did I mention ‘doing nothing’ has never been a problem for me already? Just thought this one made a
good book rec for those looking for something to thumb through this weekend. I may just go scoop it up myself once the
rain dies down here in Florida. Read it? Liked it? Hated it? Let me know.
