Across Canada by Train

Riding in a train across Canada, Discovery Channel’s
David Newland
is watching
the passing countryside through his window and ruminating on just about everything under the sun. Such
is the way things go when you travel by train. The landscape serves as a kind of mind candy, a phantasmagoria of moving
images that help your eyes chew on something as your mind works over delicate matters.

As for David, in this fun and insightful series, he ponders our fortune, most of us anyway, to be immigrants to this
continent, and, truly going back in time, he tries to get by
without a
connection
to the Web. I liked this series. Crossing Canada by train is something I’d very much like to do, and
Newland’s style is lively and unpretentious.
