It is a little known fact that an Enchanted Forest exists in Trinidad & Tobago. Known most
commonly for the amazing Scarlet Ibis, Pitch Lake in La Brea, and the year long fetes
gearing up to carnival season before the explosion of the actual party, Trinidad & Tobago has a lot under its belt.
However if you wish to go looking for the so called Enchanted Forest you may have hard time. Instead of actual trees,
ferns, and other mossy types of things, inquiring about the Enchanted Forest may get you pointed in the direction
of beautiful women dressed in costumes resembling butterflies with massive wings and beaded bikini’s. Huh?
The folks over at Island Events informs us
that Island People, well known for their parties and events, have decided to step into the mas scene for the 2006
carnival year. As part of a pre-launch they gave audiences a tasting of their band’s theme,
‘The Enchanted Forest.’ The full launch is to
take place later this month. I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled on this one as I’m shopping around to join a mas band
myself and for a costume to purchase though I’m really leaning towards this particular one. I’m also looking into
what’s required once you’ve joined a band.
For those who may not be aware, the carnival held in Trinidad and Tobago is titled, “the Greatest Show on Earth.” I
don’t think any other country disputes how lively and exciting the TnT carnival is as compared to others, but to put on
such an event there is an enormous amount of work involved. If you’re planning to go, you’re probably just as psyched
as I am about the band launches full of music, drinks, costumes for purchase, and gyrating bodies which only
mark the beginning of what’s to come. If the thought of wearing barely nothing gets you out of the mood of playing mas,
the bands are many. 2 Ha’Quai promises no beads and bikinis.
