Following up on Kelly’s post about the world’s hot
spots, you might be interested to know that Yahoo! has
hired veteran war correspondent Kevin Sites to launch an online news show,
Kevin Sites in the Hot Zone, which will take Web surfers on “an unprecedented view of armed conflict throughout the
world.”
What a fine idea whose time has come. For years now, I’ve been WAY into the one-man band TV reporting thing, and have
been waiting years now for a company like Yahoo to step up to the plate and deliver some original content that escapes
the clutches of mass media TV. Sites is just the person to do this, too. His reporting from Iraq and Afghanistan has
set standards for one-man band reporting and I’m sure the stuff he finds out there will be amazing, provided, of
course, he doesn’t get killed.
His show/site will cover his travels throughout some 31 major war-raveged areas of the globe, and over the course of a
year, he’ll file video, photo and print dispatches, spending roughly one week in each locale.
