The Guggenheim’s massive Russia! exhibit opened last week,
an unprecedented collection of over 250 pieces. As the show’s overview
explains, this is the largest collection of Russian art to
leave the region since the end of the Cold War, and includes many pieces that have never traveled abroad.
The exhibit charts the history of Russian art from the 13th century to today, winding chronologically through the
museum. There is, of course, a slate of events to accompany
the exhibit, including a lecture series and family days. If you live in the city and can sneak out of work early today,
why not catch a tour of the exhibit with co-curator Valerie Hillings at 2pm — it’s free with museum admission. The
exhibit runs through January 11, 2006.
