World Music: Cibelle

Those of us who fell in love with Cibelle on her

self-titled debut release
a few years back and discovered a new purpose for travel to Brazil should prepare to
fall in love all over again. I remember the first time I was introduced her music. The CD was given to me as a
birthday present and as it was being placed in my hands my dear friend told me these very words, “you’re not
ready.” I wasn’t. Thirty years of college and a life sentence in music education couldn’t have prepared
for the musical orgasm that occurred.

If you haven’t been acquainted with the seductive young talent who uses her tongue to lash out lyrics
in both Portuguese and English I suggest you sit down for World Music 101 and brace yourself to fall in love at
first sound. Soft, sexy, pure, lounge, samba, bossa, jazz, whatever you want, whatever dreams of Rio, Sao Paulo,
caipiranhas, and beach sands you have you’ll want Cibelle to be part of the soundtrack. Her latest limited-edition EP
commands full attention as she plays with more folk, microbeat, and sonic inventivity. If that isn’t enough for
your ear, listen closely to the lyrics as she puts her own personal twist on the early
Nirvana track, ‘About A Girl’ in which the album is also
titled.

The EP is schedule for release this October 2005.
