World Solar Challenge

The 8th Annual World Solar Challenge is set to kick off
tomorrow in Australia. Actually, it’s just turning tomorrow there right now…so the competitors should be getting their
last zzz’s before the 8 am start.

Teams from 11 countries will travel from Darwin to Adelaide, using only the power of the sun. This educational
competition gathers the brightest engineers and scientists from around the world to test new technologies that promote
sustainable transportation and solar energy alternatives.

The race should take no more than a week to complete, but some teams could finish in as little as four days. There are
three teams from the US, including the
Michigan Solar Car team, which has a
nice blog to track their progress. I’m betting on Australian
car Kelly (named after the notorious
Ned Kelly, of course), just cuz I like the name.
