Treasured Maps

I’d don’t think we’ve ever mentioned The Map Room here before so I’d
like to give a nod to this extremely resourceful blog. Travelers depend on maps for so many different reasons, and The
Map Room is a wonderful portal that keeps us up to date on the latest trends and news in the world of cartography,
mapping technologies and collections.

Which leads me to mention a collection currently on exhibit at the New York Public Library that I
heard about from The Map Room.
Treasured Maps opened in early September and runs through April 2006.
It’s a collection of over 80 rare maps and atlases. The exhibit is organized into ten separate sections focusing on
different geographical regions, as well as the history and tools of mapmaking. The next curatorial talk about the
collection will be held on November 9 with Alice Hudson, Chief of the Map Division.
