Waikiki Weekly – Revised

Before I begin with the things this blog can offer you, let me start with this advance warning: It’s
not the Waikiki you read about from the tourism bureau. The author of the
Waikiki Weekly blog is a 41 year-old Hawai’i native who took off
sometime ago to live in Colorado only to return to the sun-soaked beaches of Oahu and has become overly
disenchanted with it all. Her blog covers everything from the rambling poor, dumpsters, screens falling from the window
of an apartment complex, tourists sporting matching orange shirts, and ordinary people doing ordinary things to start.
It seems as though she set out to burst one’s bubble about life in tourist filled Waikiki, but the truth is, the price
of paradise has gotten the best of her. It’s no secret Hawai’i is a pricey place to play and stay and for the author
she’s dead broke and heading back to Colorado.

I OVERstand some of her woes having lived there myself, but this is a bit much. All that beautiful land, sun,
sand, and rainbows around her and it seems she couldn’t find one positive to note to make about the place.
Perhaps it was her negative and unhappy experiences temping, searching for work, and just trying to get by in the
island that kept me there for so long. Overall it’s real. The quality of the photos aren’t so hot, but you’ll
certainly get the picture. It’s worth looking at if you’ve got a little time to kill.
