The advent of digital photography has allowed photographers to take vastly more pictures than
they ever did before. Me, I now carry one 1Gb, one 512Mb, and one 256Mb Compact Flash cards when I travel. And you know
what? If I’m shooting a bunch of panos in a place, and if I’m gone for a long
time…sometimes that’s not enough. On my recent trip to Armenia,
I brought along my laptop so I could dump off photos onto my hard drive. But what if you can’t lug your laptop
around?
Well, Digital Foci recently introduced the Picture
Porter portable digital photo album that allows you to load all your pics directly from your storage card. It
handles all card formats including CF I/II, MD, SM,MMC, SD Card, miniSD, Memory Stick, MS PRO, MS Duo, MS PRO Duo. And
can load media types including photo: JPEG, TIFF, BMP, RAW and Video: MPEG1, MPEG4, MJPEG, DivX 5.x, as well as Music:
MP3, WMA, AAC, WAV. The Picture Porter comes in 20GB & 40GB models which start at $399, so it ain’t exactly cheap,
but it could be a very nice solution if you take a ton of pics.
