The art of tourism exhibit that premiered in Chicago earlier this year is now a traveler itself.
Universal Experience: Life, Art and the Tourist’s
Eye opened yesterday at the Hayward Gallery in London.
A collection of 50 works by artists from around the globe, the show explores the state of the tourism industry from
all angles, expressing artistic views on the transformative power of a world in which 700 million people travel
internationally each year.
In conjunction with the show, every Friday night in October there will be a 5pm outdoor
viewing of Andy Warhol’s epic 8-hour Empire. Also in the
works is a collaborative film project, The Universal Tourist, which
will create a documentary of holiday photos and home movies shared by the public. It will premiere on December 10 at
the National Film Theatre.
