Pushkar Camel Festival

It is only a few weeks until this annual dromedary fun fest kicks off in Rajasthan, India. Each November over 2
million tourists and animal traders converge on
Pushkar to bargain for camels and cattle, and to
celebrate Indian culture. This
thread on the Fodors forum is a
good place to start if you need itinerary suggestions or want to learn more about planning a trip. The
festival funs from November 12th to the 15th this year and will take place
from November 2-5th in 2006 — it ends on the night of the full moon. Most of the camel bargaining/trading happens early
on, so if you want to catch that action, plan to be in town before the festival kicks into high gear. A google search
of “pushkar camel festival” returns a bazillion tour companies that can get you there — here is
one with an English-speaking departure slated for November
7.
