Swimming with Manatees

With the exception of these past two hurricane seasons, visiting Florida around this time of year
and during our practically non-existent winter is typically the best time.
Temperatures drop down to very comfortable levels making a day trip to several popular destinations enjoyable, but
if I was forced to pick only one then I would suggest a day in Crystal River swimming with
Manatees. Snorkeling with the enormous sea cows is a rewarding experience for all ages. For advanced divers and
scuba enthusiasts it can be a light water activity to enjoy a day in Florida waters, while those of us still
waiting to get certified to swim with several more animals down in the deep will have loads of fun making
friends with the gentle creatures. On average manatees are 10 ft. long, weighing 800-1200 lbs. They’re big and
loveable.

Sunshine River Tours is only one of many companies
providing manatee tours so feel free to shop around, but in terms of additional services they have many
others. Snorkel tours, Scalloping trips, airboat rides, and dive instruction are available as well. The best time
of year to book your tour is in November and times are either scheduled at 6 AM or 9 AM. Trips start at $30 per person,
which includes mask, fins, and snorkel.
