As Erik mentioned last year, the Loi Krathong Festival
in Thailand is a must-see cultural celebration. This year the main festivities take place leading up to and on November
16, the night of the full moon. There are
events throughout the country,
along rivers and canals where krathongs, banana–leaf cups, are sent to float away bad fortune and express apologies to
the River Goddess. One of the main events is the
Electric Float Procession along the Chao
Praya River in Bangkok. Throughout the country, boats with flickering candles and lanterns are set adrift in rivers and
waterways celebrating the
Festival of
Lights.
