Los Angeles by Bike

When I sit down to blog about cool destinations to vacation and absorb local culture I’m often
seeking a new place to call home. It seems I’m quite indecisive these days. I want to live
overseas one moment, Seattle the next, and sometimes even Detroit. Each place is packed with numerous
possibilities. I do regret the fact that I left Los Angeles for Tampa, yet when I go visit I
know there’s no need to move back right this instance. For one I have a love/hate relationship with the city. I love my
family being so close by, the nightlife, and variety in dining. I hate the traffic.

A lot of other people do too however, they’ll sit bumper to bumper for hours on a commute that should normally take
only half an hour. A difficult sight to bare indeed, but what options are there? Bus? Bike? Both very bad jokes
right? Well if proof that it can be done is all you need, then you’ll want to check out
this piece found in Slate by Andy Bowers. Some months back he
decided he would bike to his office located a mere four miles away from his home, but even four miles can seem a great
distance by bike in L.A. The city isn’t the friendliest when it comes to bikers or (coughs) obstacles preventing one
from getting to a very important meeting fifteen minutes late rather than thirty. He describes a city far different
from what I saw and one where traffic is just an illusion. Andy’s story makes me want to become a believer that the
perfect City of Angels exists, a city where traffic doesn’t have to be a tremendous worry and a city I may be able
to return with one less thing to dislike about it.
