Navigating the Streets of Rome

A nod to my mom for pointing me to this funny
piece
from the Sunday New York Times about using GPS to navigate the ancient streets of Rome. Ian Fisher
shares a humorous story about attaching a GPS device to his motorino to help him get around town, since street signs
and numbering systems in Rome are anything but easy to interpret. In his own words:

I do not need to see street signs. I trust the satellites overhead. It is a faith the Vatican, which I whiz by
often, might respect for its strength, if not its source.

Italians are only beginning to slowly warm up to global positioning systems, and while some claim that they do not
echo the spirit of how one should wander through Rome, Fisher believes that they are helpful to some degree, and will
not be able to drain Rome of its chaotic soul. I guess only time will tell…
