Origami Tree Takes Flight

I don’t think there are any planes or helicopters hanging from this holiday tree, but it is a creative celebration
of traveling animals that you might want to take the kids to see. A 19-foot tall holiday tree decorated with over 1,000
origami birds, insects and bats marking the theme of “flight” was unveiled at the
American Museum of Natural History in New York
recently. The tree is decorated exclusively with an array of winged creatures, including owls, jays, doves,
dragonflies, butterflies and the bat, the only flying mammal. The creatures are made by volunteers from OrigamiUSA, a
national organization with about 50 Japanese members. It will be on display until January 1, 2006.
