We did a quick review of some noise reduction headphones a while back. I was hoping to provide some advice on
headphones that wouldn’t bust the pocketbook, but still did a good enough job cutting out airplane engine noise and/or
the city’s din. But you know what, it’s the holiday season and that means it’s no time to scrim on buying presents for
friends and family. So I am gong to go to the (near) top end of the market here, and recommend a set of headphones that
will blow your mind…and cushion your ears.
The
Bose’s
QuietComfort 2 headphones are without a doubt the Porsche of noise reductions headphones. They are sweet in so many
ways that we hardly can list them all. But first and foremost they do the job of cutting back on the ambient (and
otherwise) noise that can make listening to music or
your favorite book a less than
fulfilling experience.
The QuietComfort phones are able to electronically distinguish the ambient noise around you and then reduce it via
high- and low-frequency outputs. Very clever. And more, as I say, they are as cozy as a comfy chair (The comfy chair!).
The ear cups bed your ears like a skull sofa, and then rotate flat for easy storage. And, of course, the sound from
these babies is amazing. This is a gift for the dedicated traveler and audiophile in your family or among your coterie
of friends. But they ain’t cheap. The Bose
QuietComfort
currently run about $299.
