Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse

Here’s a Christmas away from home idea that works or comes quite close to the cozy qualities one might find at home for the holidays. Let your Christmas lights be that from a lighthouse or
better yet the Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse located in Somerset, NY.
Larry Price’s
piece
found at CNN on his family’s stay there during the winter prompted me to do some more searching and my
finds were incredible. Splendid indeed! Some nice soul out there decided to create a very detailed site with some
fine photographs of both the interior and exterior, which can be
found here.

Built in 1875, the lighthouse sits thirty miles east of the Niagara River. The accommodation itself is more like a
cabin or at least that’s what you have to ask for when booking. A maximum of six people can camp out at the lighthouse
for $150 nightly. That’s an awesome deal, but keep in mind the bring your own linens, towels, and groceries rule. See –
just like home. Seriously, if you’re in the area I don’t think you’ll find a better deal for a six-person family
looking to experience the holidays in such historic digs.
