One for the Road: Real Photo Postcards

On my recent trip to Portland, I sent postcards to a few family members before I left. And I mean literally before I
left — I filled them out and mailed them about a half hour before I boarded the plane to leave town. I love sending
postcards, but the ones in the airport bookstore can be so hideous sometimes. Wouldn’t it be cool if with our fancy new
digital cameras we could print a copy of a photo instantly while we travel, slap a stamp on it and send it off snail
mail? I know we can upload it to flickr or a blog or an email…but isn’t snail mail from faraway places so much more fun
to get in your mailbox than your inbox? I’ve got a whole stack of postcards that I sent to my family from Europe when I
was there ten years ago. It is fun to re-read them now. Here is a new book with some of the same, but from a long time
ago: Real Photo Postcards:

Unbelievable Images from the Collection of Harvey Tulcensky
is a new collection of unique photograph postcards
compiled by Tulcensky and his wife. The Morning News recently
interviewed the couple and
posted a gallery of some of the photos
from the book. Neat stuff, and clever
too. Be sure to read the captions and click all the way through. I’m sure the book has lots more of the
same.
