Hoboken: The Sinatra Tour

Old Blue Eyes would have turned 90 today. I thought we could take quick trip to
his hometown of Hoboken, NJ to pay tribute to the celebrity swooner. The
Hoboken Historical Museum provides guides for several walking tours of the
city. Visit their gift shop for a copy of the self-guided
Sinatra Tour, which will take you past his birthplace and
sites where he sang as a youth. There is also a general
walking tour of Hoboken
that includes the site of the Maxwell House Coffee Plant, Stevens Institute of Technology, City Hall, and countless
churches, fire stations and even a funeral home. Ya know, just your average out-for-a-stroll kinda stuff. The
Public Library also has a collection of memorabilia of famous
Hoboken residents and an exhibit celebrating this year’s city sesquetennial. Here’s an
article from the year he died,
about the parish where he was baptized as a child. It gives some background about Frankie and his hometown. Not up for
walking tours? Another way to celebrate: tune in to WPLM-FM in Boston for the
Strictly Sinatra radio tribute.
