There is a fine line between art and commercial culture, and the fact is the latter usually becomes the former over
time. It hasn’t taken much time for the folks at Pixar to be recognized as viable artists. Just 20 years. Because
starting Wednesday, the Metropolitan Museum of Art
(MOMA) will be exhibiting the art and drawings from Pixar’s 20 years in the
animation biz.
Now, I am such a devoted fan of cartoon, especially the old Warner Brothers ones, that I will almost assuredly go to
this exhibit. The Pixar films of the last 20 years have all been fantastic; IMHO the animators and artists at Pixar
have easily filled the shoes of their WB predecessors. So this should be a great exhibit, and I’ll try to post about
it, once I see it.
