Tis’ the Season for Parang

Now is the time to explore how other countries are gearing up and celebrating this festive season
during these last 11 days till Christmas. For Trinidad & Tobago carolers are
replaced by the likes of serenaders bringing the sounds of
Parang. In most cases Calypso is the music most associated with
the eastern Caribbean island, but during the holiday season it’s parang, parang, parang! For the most part the arrival
of parang in Trinidad can be credited to imported cocoa estate workers from Venezuela though there is some
small controversy surrounding that. Traditional lyrics of parang are sung in Spanish with Religious and
Christian themes, however over past years soca, calypso and even Indian drumming and chutney sounds have fused with
parang creating appeal for several audiences.

Trinidad music store online sells
Strictly Parang box
sets
for a reasonable price. May not be the music of choice for all, but it sure could come in handy if “I saw
mommy kissing Santa Claus,” gets played one more time making you want to fly over the mistletoe.
