Top Travel Stories and News from 2005

The end-of-year lists keep coming…The New
York Times
and National Geographic have both released short lists of their most popular news
stories/articles of the year. This huge fella made the top of the list for National Geographic’s news stories of 2005:
This giant squid off the
coast of Japan was the first ever to be captured in photos while in the wild. Other tops stories from National Geographic’s Top Ten News
Stories of 2005
include the King Tut exhibit, the bursting python and coverage of the tsunami
and  Hurricane Katrina. The New York Times list focuses on the articles most enjoyed by readers. The top
pick was the July piece about the "new
Riviera" in Croatia
. Other stories that made the top 20 cut feature
Maureen Dowd on spring break in
Mexico and places like Le Marche, St. Tropez, Capri, Dubai, Molokai and Shanghai. Obviously places ending in
