Sydney: New Year's Eve

Sydney puts
on an amazing live performance each December 31st as it continues in its annual role as one of the first major cities
to welcome the new year. Every New Year’s Eve celebration in Sydney includes a unique creative concept and theme that
shapes the city’s long list of festivities. This year Heart of the Harbour will serve as the
theme for  the city’s celebrations, but details of the creative display showcased during the evening is kept mostly
under wraps until the moment when 2006 arrives. From 1pm to 7pm on New Year’s Eve, the city will sponsor a series of
events during their Every Hour on the Hour
program. At 8pm a traditional indigenous ceremony kicks off the evening activities, which includes two fireworks
displays (a family one at 9 pm and the spectacular at midnight) and a floating light parade of 50 vessels. These
stunning events draw crowds of over 1 million people spread out around the harbour. The city provides maps of the best vantage points from which to witness
this incredible party in the sky.
