Here’s yet another
Trinidad and Tobago piece found in the Miami
Herald from two weekends back. One would think I’d get bored reading about the same major events; Carnival, bird
watching, and liming on Tobago’s sleepy beaches, but with every story comes a different and new glimpse at someone
else’s week, month or year spent in the southern most Caribbean islands. Without taking away from all the other
happenings this particular piece brings a lot of attention back to one of the greatest leisure activities to spend a
day or two engaging in – bird watching at the Asa Wright Nature
Center. On my last visit I stuck to the swamps and channels of Caroni Bird Sanctuary where I watched Scarlet Ibis
call it a day as they flew overhead back to their roosting nests. The Asa Wright nature center sits tucked in the
mountains of the Northern Range of Trinidad and almost guarantees a closer look at some of the country’s 460 birds.
Orange winged Parrot, Bat, Falcon, Common Potoo and Blue-crowned Motmot are only a few to be found. Click here for the center’s bird list. I’ll certainly try to make
it a part of my trip this go round.
