I love coincidences. On the same day I picked up the October edition of Forbes, 400
Richest People in America, I randomly met the boat driver for Dennis Washington, #93 on the list. More impressively, I
got an eyeful of the boat he calls home and upon
which he travels around the world.
I had been walking through Marina del Rey (California) when I came across his immaculate yacht moored at the end of
the docks. It was big and shiny and had a helicopter parked atop it. In short, every man’s
dream.
My girlfriend struck up a conversation with a man standing near the dock entrance who turned out to be the
yacht’s driver. Talk about a fantastic way to travel. The 226-foot yacht cost $80 million, is
operated by a crew of 16 and has two Jacuzzis, a movie theater, and gym. And of course, a personal
helicopter. Not exactly my style of travel, but certainly one I could get used to.
