A short
while ago, Neil introduced us to a new air travel phenomenon called
Air Dating, rather intriguing, if implausible concept started by an Internet dating company called AirTroductions. The idea is that before you fly, you can check the availability
of singles on your flight and arrange to sit next to them. Both parties must consent to do this, and, presumably, you’d
at least get to see a photo of the person before you go. Ideally, you’d get to watch a video too, so that you can
determine whether the person next to comes across as a Chatty Cathy or Garrulous Gary, someone next to whom you wold
NOT want to get stuck for the duration of a flight.
Well, it’s an interesting idea, and I certainly salute
the effort. If anything it is an indication that American entrepreneurism is alive and well. Well, if the idea intrigues
you, you might enjoy listening to a story on NPR
about the company. Airtroductions.com user Julia Filz describes the service to NPR’s Scott Simon.
