A Few Hours in San Juan, Puerto Rico

On my way back from Trinidad I have a
short layover in San Juan, Puerto Rico which I believe
is long enough to leave the airport for at least an hour and a half, but my friends think I should stay put, take in the
airport sites and soak in all the recycled air conditioning humanly possible. Don’t ask me why I’m thinking about this
now, but I figured with even a small amount of planning I should be able to leave for a moment to get some fresh air.
Here’s the deal, my flight is scheduled to arrive in San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport at 10:20
AM and depart at 3:53 PM. I’ve never been to Puerto Rico so I’m not sure if there’s anything worth seeing around the
airport. Street art? Cool city architecture? Afternoon traffic? While I’m certain I won’t have enough time to go visit
the San Juan Museum of Art and History, there’s gotta be something?!?! If my flight stays on schedule without any
delays I should be able to hop in a taxi and cruise the town for at least an hour and a half, camera in tow snapping
pictures faster than the most berserk tourists. I admit this usually isn’t my sight-seeing style and surely isn’t
engaging travel, but I’m known to bend the rules. So what do you think? Any suggestions? To leave the airport or not to
leave? That is the question.
