I’m
going to have to go way back to junior high school to unearth the perfect word for this new travel toy: Bitchen!
The Nextel i605 is a traveler’s dream. It
combines a regular old cell phone with a full-service GPS unit. And, it’s Bluetooth-enabled.
Certainly the coolest application this marriage of technology yields is visible the moment you turn it on and a
satellite image of your exact location magically appears on the unit’s 2.2 inch screen. Friends or family
can also pinpoint your location if you provide them with the access code (don’t do it!). Jack Bauer might find
this boringly ho-hum, but the rest of us travel tech nerds without government issued spy gear are absolutely giddy over
this.
The wireless capabilities also mean that you can download maps and use the GPS to pinpoint your location and plot
your coordinates. The GPS works outside of cell reception so it can be taken deep into the mountains for that
cross-country trek you’ve always wanted to do. If you’re more of a city slicker, the unit also
provides provide audible and visual turn-by-turn directions to get you to the nearest Blockbuster.
Most importantly, this new device now means there is absolutely NO EXCUSE whatsoever for getting lost.
