Newport is becoming the new spot for jazz. Nope, not the
East Coast Newport. I’m talking about the West Coast one. Newport, Oregon. Didn’t know such a place even existed? Well,
it does, and they are in their third year of staging the wonderful “Jazz
At Newport” festival on the Oregon coast.
This year’s program kicks off on September 8, with jazz
camps for music students starting on September 5. There will also be a series of lectures called the "Jazz
Dialogues," featuring in-depth interview sessions with musicians. Call it a jazzy version of "Inside the
Actor’s Studio". Cool stuff for the jazz aficionado, and perhaps worth a visit if you’re traveling through Oregon
this summer.
