Even though it’s far from a travel blog, I’m always checking out Kottke to see what kind of interesting stuff he comes up with. I found this post on Manhattan fascinating. Essentially, it’s a simple concept, but one that I haven’t seen before. The project is the brainchild of Bill Rankin, and he calls it The Errant Isle of Manhattan.
The idea is essentially this: what would Manhattan look like, in both map-form and computer generated, if it was located not off of New Jersey and Brooklyn, but off of other major US cities. The results are rather interesting. I suppose my favorite is the San Fransisco version since I pretty much imagine a mixture of Manhattan and “The City” to be about the best urban combination possible…unless you cold throw a dose of Seattle in there, then that would be Nirvana.
