The Nikon D80…in the Buff

I’m sitting here about four feet from my Nikon D70, a wonderful camera that has pretty much done an excellent job getting me through my day to day photographic excursions. The series of photos for my Newfoundland slide shows were all shot with the D70. But these companies have to keep making better products as the technology improves or they risk being left in the dust. Interestingly, lots of folks told me to buy the Canon when I was camera shopping. And I almost did, but enough reviews said that the D70 was a superb camera, that I figured I’d stay with the brand. I’d been loyal to Nikon for a long time, and didn’t really want to change on a visceral level.

Well, now the next generation has come out from Nikon, and while I don’t have a lot to say about it yet (I haven’t got my hands on one…in fact, I’m not sure anyone I know has or if it’s even possible), the folks at Engadget have got a series of photos that are just luscious and a nice little round up on the model. I’ll be trying to find a D80 as soon as they’re out, but in the meeantime say it with me: 10.2 megapixels.
