I blogged about the Fall Colors in the US and put a special emphasis on the Northeast, but it seems I missed a place down South where the colors burn vibrantly this time of year and where you are not likely to encounter the shutterbug hordes who are out in full force right now in places like New Hampshire.
With nearly 200 species of hardwood trees, Arkansas has one of the longest fall foliage seasons in the United States, and the reds, oranges and yellows of autumn are now blazing away. The Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism posts weekly on the fall color situation on its Web site, with a series that began on September 28. The site can be seen at arkansas.com and click on “Fall Color in Arkansas.” The Ozarks typically peak in early to mid-October, and then two other regions including central-western and southern-eastern peak from late October through mid-November.
