A quick, but nicely done post over at sister blog Divester featuring mention of a contest for the “Freakiest Fish”. In this case, while there were many fine contenders, the Divester guys nominate the blobfish, a fish only in the scientific sense of the term, since the thing looks more like an alien from a George Lucas movie or something that might have dripped out of your nose. But, yes, blob fish are real and in fact are deep water fish found off Australia and Tasmania. According to Divester, they are rarely seen by humans, and “are made mostly of jelly”. But certainly NOT the kind of jelly you’d want to spread on your bagel.
