Let me confess I’m rather annoyed by this list. Not only are we NOT mentioned, it’s just NOT that good of a list. In fact, it’s totally predictable and pretty much the kind of thing I expect you’d find in USA Today rather than the Washington Post.
But here, anyway, is the Post’s list of 36 Travel Websites you should Know. They sort them into broad categories like aggregators (a la Kayak, Priceline), all-purpose, last-minute, budget, etc. There’s nary a site here that caters to narrative, adventure or snarkiness.
Here’s what they themselves say about the list: “If you’ve used the Internet to plan a trip, you’re not alone. More than 64 million Americans used online sites last year to ferret out travel options, according to a survey by the Travel Industry Association of America. The landscape has become very confused as thousands of sites compete for a share of this lucrative industry–one study estimates that Internet users spent nearly $23 billion on travel booking in 2002 and will spend $50 billion annually by 2007. We’ve pored over hundreds of .coms, .nets, .govs and .orgs to come up with our top picks.”
So we hope next time they’ll do better. And that they’ll remember Gadling for goodness sakes.
(Post note: OK, as Laura pointed out, this is an old list….sorry about that!)
