Staying over night in a hotel made of ice may seem like one of those weird, new age things, to do, but let’s face it, you’d love to be able to tell your friends you did it. Looks like you’d have lots of company, too. In fact, when the Duchesnay first opened in January of 2000, all of its beds were sold out…all 22 of them.
Then they added more until some 85 ice beds were available lined with deer furs and arctic sleeping bags were quickly added. The only heated place you’re going to find is in the bathroom. The hotel consists of 4,750 tons of sculpted ice, which forms lovely glittering arches over rooms with 16 foot ceilings. They wine you and dine you to boot. Drinks are, perhaps not surprisingly, served in ice glasses as well as food served on plates made entirely out of smooth ice.
