New York Times Best Articles of 2006

We regularly link to the New York Times travel section because, quite simply, it is a brilliant source of information about the latest, hottest, and best travel trends from around the world.

Before the advent of the digital age, the New York Times really had no way to measure which of their travel articles were readily consumed by readers, and which were merely ho-hum and barely read. Now that readers can email their favorite articles to friends and family, the New York Times knows exactly which of their articles are the most popular.

And now, so do we.

The 25 Most E-Mailed Travel Articles of 2006 is just that: A list of those articles which readers have deemed worthy enough to forward on.

Number one on the list wasn’t too unexpected: Affordable Europe. I’m sure anyone with a friend heading off to Europe emailed this one right away.

Number two on the list, however, was completely unexpected. Chasing the Perfect Taco Up the California Coast was an article I passionately covered back in July. I love tacos, but I live in California along the coast, so you can understand my interest. But for New York Times readers to email this article more than any other (except Affordable Europe) was truly surprising to me. I guess more people love Tacos and California than I expected.

If you have a moment, pop on over to the New York Times and check out the remaining 23 on the list. It’s a wonderful snapshot of the very best that the paper has had to offer in the previous year. If you can’t find at least one article that really ignites the travel bug in you, you should think about checking your pulse. At the very minimum, at least consider heading on over to California to enjoy those tacos. Mmmm…
